We are here to serve the community!
There's much to see here. So, take your time, look around, and learn all there is to know about us. We hope you enjoy our site and take a moment to drop us a line.
* Located in rural Northeastern Ohio, Marlboro Township Volunteer Fire Company (MTVFC) was founded in 1947 by a group of men who were concerned about the safety and wellbeing of their families and neighbors. The members of that fire board organized a private, not for profit Fire Company and served as volunteers. We remain a private company, under contract with Marlboro Township to provide fire and Emergency Medical Services (EMS).
* The ground was broken in April 1949 for a fire station on the Marlboro Square. That station still serves the community today, more than 70 years later. We currently have two engines, two tankers, two ambulances, and a Gator for grass fires and off-road medical emergencies to serve the residents in the 36.5 square miles of our township. MTVFC operates off local contracts. The contracts are based upon township finances and responses, and our budget can fluctuate annually.
* Due to the rural location of Marlboro Township, many residents commute over an hour to work in the nearby cities of Cleveland or Youngstown. The population of the township was 4360, as of 2018. Marlboro Township does not have any hydrants and must continue to rely on the Stark County Water Shuttle when structure fires occur.
* Marlboro Township is the home of a campground, winery, and golf course, which increases our population substantially during the summer months. Pegasus Horse Farm, a recognized therapy center for the disabled, is also located in our township. With several state routes located in our township, we have large numbers of people traveling through our community. In addition to the citizens of Marlboro Township, the Marlboro Township Volunteer Fire Company provides mutual aid to the residents in our surrounding communities, when called upon.
* MTVFC currently has 32 members, the majority with both fire and EMS certifications. We have a chief, assistant chief, and five officers. In 2015, we re-introduced our Cadet program in an effort to encourage the youth of our community to get involved with our fire department, and we have four (4) cadets on our department. A board of seven (7) trustees, elected from the township residents, serves as our governing body, along with the fire chief and a firefighters’ representative. The women’s auxiliary is responsible for coordinating the “Lunch on the Square” every Memorial Day, the fall open house, the annual Christmas party, and any additional support the fire department needs.
* Over the past year, department members have spent 2073 hours responding to calls. This does not include the time spent in trainings, doing public service details, attending weekly meetings, and maintaining equipment. In 2020, we averaged almost 40 calls per month, with 1.29 runs averaged per day. This is a 7.3% increase in calls from 2019. In 2020, with support from our residents, MTVFC began staffing the fire station with two (2) personnel during the hours of 8:00am-10:00pm.
* In April of 2010, we started transporting patients to the local hospitals. While this is an appreciated benefit for the community, it also comes at a cost to the department. Stark County hospitals do not resupply disposable in-field items; therefore, MTVFC must purchase all EMS supplies. As the EMS responses continue to increase, so does the overall associated expense.
* The men and women of the Marlboro Township Volunteer Fire Company are proud to serve in a township where we are well-supported by our friends and neighbors. It is with everyone working together that this department has grown and prospered to be successful in the protection and safety of our community.
